Meeting Minutes
Monday, February 8, 2010
1. The
meeting was called to order by Bob Pusanik, substituting for Chair Lynn Walter.
Present were:
Bob Pusanik, Anne Brown, Jan Taylor, Lisa Newton, Julia Hartzell, Ken Thompson,
Steve Johnson, Bill Tickell, Karin Argano.
Excused were:
Lynn Walter, Boyd Horne, Jayne Morton, Sherri Danoff, Ted Ivarie, John Schug.

2. The
minutes were read and corrected: (In the Port San Luis report by Steve McGrath,
his report was corrected due to the confusion regarding the pile-driving crane
which could not go out onto the pier due to its
weight,
not
condition.)

3. Public
Comment: none
4.
Treasurer’s Report: Jan Taylor reports a balance of $607.88 (no change)
5. County
Reports:
5.1. Sheriff: Commander Hall reports 76 calls and 15 reports. No reports
for the Bob Jones Trailhead. An attempted homicide at Mr. Rick’s in Avila. Some
vandalism. He cautioned again about scams involving Western Union; debit cards
and PIN #s. Meeting re: Pirate’s Cove on Wednesday.
5.2. Planning: Ryan Hostetter absent.
5.3. Public Works: Ryan Chapman absent.
5.4. Supervisor Adam Hill: unable to attend.
6. Old
Business:
6.1. Creek Development in See Canyon: Bill Tickell says there are a
number of projects proposed in the Canyon, but residents are not being informed.
Steve Johnson added that the 3-lot subdivision at the entrance to the Canyon has
been seen by AVAC. Brian Pedrotti is the Planner in the Canyon.
Action: Chair to write Planner Pedrotti regarding the need to inform residents
of proposed developments and also to inform AVAC. Motion carried.
7. Community
Liaisons:
ABA: Karin reports that the mixer held at the Sea Life Center was
successful with good food and explanation of the various displays. She
encouraged attendance. Their Board Meeting is the 4th Tuesday of the
month at 5:30 p.m. at the Community Center.
ABCA: Lisa reported on increased membership in the Association and
encouraged all AVAC members and audience to become members. The various Center
programs are successful with full attendance. A part-time Executive Director is
being sought now.
ABCF: Rick Cohen reports an upcoming Town Hall Meeting in Avila on May 6th. There will be
a panel of various community groups.
The Avila
Community Newspaper (with funding from ABCF) has extended its mailings to Bassi
Ranch and Squire Canyon rural routes.
Port San Luis: Steve McGrath reports seeing the TV adv for Bridgestone
Tires (filmed on the Avila Pier) on the SuperBowl. He reports storm damage with
wind-generated swells and lost boats. A “lost child” incident was handled
extremely well by the Port staff. Pale Kai has requested use of the beach in
June. “Fat Cats” restaurant lease has been extended until 2011. There is an RFP
out for management of the Marine Store in the parking lot.
Diablo: Pat Wilmore says that PG&E is applying to the PUC for permission
to bill ratepayers for the cost of the seismic study they plan to do.
The repair of
the Port road along the bay has created some problems with shift changes at
Diablo, but it is running smoothly now. There are 2 NRC hearings tomorrow at the
Embassy Suites. Times: 1:30-4:30 and 7-10 p.m.
8. New
Business:
8.1. Letter of Support for Pale Kai event: Anne Brown read the letter
from Pale Kai requesting support of their “Pineapple Express” event on June 19th. (We have
supported them in the past.)
Motion made by Bob Pusanik, seconded by Steve Johnson that the Chair be
instructed to write to Port San Luis in support of the above event. Passed 9/0.
